Toon Fibbe

Toon Fibbe

Toon Fibbe is a visual artist who currently investigates the development of the financial sector and its effects on the shaping and visibility of identity. By delving into the historical representations of credit, Fibbe attempts to uncover how the creation of credit, the social person, and literary character are intricately entangled. The driving force of Fibbe’s practice lies in the creation and enacting of characters – real, fictional, current or historical. This activity spawns objects, texts, fashion, performances, and installations in which the abstractions of finance suddenly begin to scream, speculators parade on heels and debt instruments are used to perform an autopsy. Fibbe studied at the Rietveld Academy and the Piet Zwart Institute. He participated in residency programmes such as Van Eyck Academy, Deltaworkers New Orleans, and Kunsthuis Syb. Recent exhibitions, performances, and screenings have been included in WIELS Brussels, W139 Amsterdam, M HKA Antwerp, MAMA Rotterdam, M Leuven, Jester Genk, Playbill Amsterdam.
